Chapter synopsis: Precision agriculture (PA) has been adopted to improve crop production while optimizing resource allocation. The chapter discusses developments in tools and technologies used in precision agriculture for effective decision making, including remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) technologies, sensors and sensor networks. There is a particular focus on statistical and crop simulation models for identifying and accounting for variability in crop production systems.
