Code: 9781838799786

Chapter synopsis: The impending ban on antibiotics in animal feed due to the current concern over the spread of antibiotic resistance genes makes the development of alternative prophylactics imperative. This chapter presents some of the alternatives currently used in food-producing animals to influence their health in relation to human health. The chapter focuses on experiences with probiotics, prebiotics and synbiotics in poultry, and looks ahead to future research trends in this area.
