Techno-economic analysis for cultivated meat production

Code: 9781801469838

Chapter synopsis:

Techno Economic Analysis and Techno-Economic Modeling are key activities in the development of emerging technologies and play a critical role in cultivated meat commercialization. The production scales required to replace a meaningful portion of current meat consumption are significant and will require extensive innovation beyond current approaches. Economics must be understood for the complete set of activities from cell and media creation through production, packaging, storage, and processing (or recycling) of liquid and solid waste streams. Key drivers for improving economics require further research and development with a focus on the parameters that can move cultivated meat production toward price parity with existing production approaches and ultimately lower. This chapter presents the thought process, methodology, and a detailed approach for evaluating the economics of cultivated meat production, with the goal of focusing technology development on key cultivated meat production parameters to achieve these goals.
